LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign released the following statement regarding the South Carolina primary results. Below please find comments from National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton:
“Ron Paul performed well in South Carolina tonight despite his focus on other states and campaigning in the Palmetto State for only four days.
“Dr. Paul quadrupled his 2008 numbers after tripling them in New Hampshire and Iowa.
“Tonight’s results also throw this race wide open. There still is no indisputable front runner. The long hard road to the nomination is merely beginning.
“As a result of their showing this evening, establishment candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich will have a lot more questions raised next week.
“Romney and Gingrich have an abundance of big government positions and flip-flops for which Republican voters will want answers. The answers to those questions are out there and this is just the beginning of the scrutiny of these candidates.

“If the Republican Party nominates a candidate who supported the healthcare individual mandate and bailouts, they do so at their peril as tonight’s top two finishers would deliver President Obama a second term.
“After tonight, only 37 delegates, or 1.6 percent of total delegates, have been awarded. The race for the Republican nomination is a marathon—not a sprint—and our campaign has in place a comprehensive plan to secure 1,144 delegates and win the nomination.
“Ron Paul is the only candidate with the plan and record to change the status quo. He consistently polls the best of the Republican candidates against President Obama, and has the grassroots support and nationwide organization to sustain the type of campaign we are about to see.

Ron Paul is not simply the anti-war candidate. He is also the national security candidate. This is an important truth that is overlooked.
The wars in the Middle East have been sold to the American people as “national security” wars, but this is a big lie. The wars have nothing to do with America’s national security interests. So, the anti-war position is the same as the pro-national security position.
Washington’s Blog shined a light on the real reasons for America’s endless wars in the article, “Are The Middle East Wars Really About Forcing the World Into Dollars and Private Central Banking?”
Ron Paul is the world’s biggest opponent of private central banking, the fiat dollar system, and the endless war on terror. His resistance has a moral dimension for sure, but his main argument is that America has not benefited from the wars either economically, militarily, or politically.
Throughout his presidential campaign Dr. Paul has repeated the point that America’s national security and economic health are being ruined by Washington’s multiple unsustainable and costly wars.
But Dr. Paul’s rejection of the war on terror mythos is not the only reason why he should be considered as the national security candidate. He puts the national security of America ahead of politics and party every single time, no matter the issue. Whether the issue is a war against Iran or indefinite detention in America, Dr. Paul is consistently for the defense of America’s national security.
It is clear that Dr. Paul is the only serious national security candidate in the 2012 presidential race. Below I’ve listed five issues which showcase Dr. Paul’s national security credentials.
1. Dr. Paul agrees with senior members of the U.S. Military that a war against Iran is a bad idea, and with the U.S. intelligence community that Iran does not have a nuclear bomb. His political foes in his party are confusing America’s national security interests with Israel’s national security interests. And in doing so, they are severely undermining the economic health and security of the United States.
2. Dr. Paul’s opposition to the indefinite detention provisions in the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) are grounded in the belief that unconstitutional laws threaten America’s national security. Earlier this week, he introduced legislation to repeal the section of the NDAA that allows the military to snatch up American citizens in the night and keep them hostage in secret prisons without trial. This government power will be abused and the social fabric of America will be destroyed. As Washington’s Blog stated in an article headline,“Indefinite Detention Hurts Our National Security and Increases the Risk of Terrorism.”
3. In August 2010, Admiral Mike Mullen, the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said U.S. national debt poses the biggest threat to America’s national security.
Dr. Paul has done the most among political leaders in raising public awareness about the rapidly growing U.S. national debt and the risks of U.S. bankruptcy. He is the only true anti-debt candidate, which proves that he truly cares about the economic security and social well-being of America, unlike every other Republican candidate and President Obama.
On January 18, 2012, Senator Jim DeMint endorsed Ron Paul’s views on foreign policy and national debt, saying:
“If we spread ourselves too thin around the world were not gonna be able to defend the homeland, particularly with the level of debt that we have right now. It’s foolish for us to think that we can have military bases all over the world, spend billions of dollars when we’re going broke back home. It just isn’t gonna happen.”
4. Ron Paul’s defense of America’s national security begins at the borders. He says as President he will protect America’s borders and restore the legal paths to citizenship in the United States. His pro-legal immigration/pro-border security platform is in line with the true values and national security interests of America.
5. The foundations of America’s national security are the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, especially the first amendment and the second amendment. They are currently under attack by the hijacked government, which is an attack on America’s national security. Dr. Paul will restore the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, which would significantly improve the security of the United States.
America would not be America without a free press and an armed citizenry. If both were destroyed, which is a very real possibility if internet censorship and police state legislation are not resisted, then the fire of liberty that is America will be extinguished forever.

Okay. It’s time somebody says it. Something seems very strange about the GOP primary pre-polling and vote thus far.
As a Ron Paul fan, I didn’t want to seem like a sore loser after the odd Iowa result where the failed no-name Senator, Rick Santorum, was catapulted to victory with very little tangible support.
But now, how on earth could Newt Gingrich win the South Carolina primary when the day before the vote he had to cancel a major campaign stop because of lack of attendance?
The Associated Press reported:
Newt Gingrich has cancelled a campaign appearance in South Carolina because of poor attendance.
The Republican presidential candidate was scheduled to speak to the Southern Republican Leadership on Friday. But a campaign spokesman told reporters that he would no longer be appearing due to poor attendance.
There were just a few dozen people in the audience at the College of Charleston’s arena, where the event was taking place.
Meanwhile, on the same day Ron Paul boasted over 1000 attendees at his campaign event in Charleston:
2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul attracted more than 1,000 supporters in Charleston today, demonstrating his strong support among younger voters and his overall popularity.
The crowd gathered expressly for the 12-term Congressman from Texas as he participated in “The Bully Pulpit Series” at 11:00 a.m. EST at the College of Charleston, located at 7 College Way, Charleston. The candidate had been in Washington the day prior for a key House vote against President Obama raising the debt ceiling, but upon his return there was apparently no loss of enthusiasm.

Primary elections are traditionally driven by enthusiasm. In other words, the average voter does not turn out for primaries unless they are motivated by a certain candidate. So, could someone please explain to me how Newt Gingrich, who has virtually no ground game, no money, and no fervent supporters, just won the South Carolina primary?
Could the conspiracy to keep Ron Paul out of the Oval Office be this coordinated, this pervasive?

The establishment Tea Party has vowed to support the presidential campaign of Michele Bachmann.
“While the Tea Party Express has not endorsed a presidential candidate at this time, Michele Bachmann garners strong Tea Party support because of her work and commitment to restoring fiscal responsibility to Washington, D.C.,” Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer said.
Earlier this month, Bachmann finished behind former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in a straw poll conducted by the national Tea Party Patriots group. Another Tea Party group, American Majority, called on Bachmann to quit the race and narrow the field for what they described as more viable Republican presidential candidates, according to the AOL-Huffington Post.
“The Tea Party Express is committed to finding and endorsing the strongest conservative candidate to take on President Barack Obama next year. In order to develop the best candidate, we must allow for a competitive process in Iowa and the early primary and other caucus states,” Kremer said. “Let’s let the voters in Iowa choose the leading candidates to go forward from the many excellent candidates we have.”
On December 20, the corporate media was obliged to admit that the front-funner in Iowa is Rep. Ron Paul from Texas. Despite his popularity in a number of polls, the Republican establishment – including the Republican hijacked Tea Party – has decided to ignore him and lose the race against Obama next November.
Bachmann’s campaign claims she is almost as popular in Iowa as Ron Paul. An automated poll conducted by WeAskAmerica.com surveyed 1,250 Iowa GOP voters and found support for Paul at 19 percent, followed by Mitt Romney at 18 percent, Newt Gingrich at 16 percent, Bachmann at 15 percent, Rick Perry at 11 percent, Rick Santorum at 9 percent and Jon Huntsman at 4 percent, the Des Moines Register reported on December 23.
“Bachmann’s poll support is not near enough to Paul’s to be within the margin of error — she’s four points back, while the survey’s purported margin of error is 2.77 percent,” notes Jason Noble, writing for the Iowa newspaper.
The Tea Party Express was founded as a project of the political action committee Our Country Deserves Better PAC by Republican party members Howard Kaloogian and Sal Russo of the GOP political consulting firm Russo Marsh and Rogers.
The Tea Party Express, FreedomWorks, the advocacy group headed by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey of Texas, and Tea Party Patriots form the core of the establishment’s version of the once libertarian movement. FreedomWorks receives most of its funding from Richard Scaife and the Sarah Scaife Foundation.
Scaife is allegedly a CIA operative and his media operation Forum World Features at one time functioned as a CIA propaganda outlet.

Despite being given just 89 seconds of speaking time during Saturday’s Republican debate, Congressman Ron Paul is in a dead heat with fellow top tier candidates Cain, Romney and Gingrich for the highly influential Iowa caucuses, placing second just one percentage point behind Cain amongst likely voters.
“A Bloomberg News poll shows Cain at 20 percent, Paul at 19 percent, Romney at 18 percent and Gingrich at 17 percent among the likely attendees with the caucuses that start the nominating contests seven weeks away.”
Paul is undoubtedly in the strongest position going into the race, because his support is “more solidified than his rivals,” a key factor given that 60 per cent of respondents in the poll said they could still be persuaded to change their vote.
32 per cent of Paul’s backers say they are sticking with the Congressman, whereas only 25 per cent of Romney supporters and 17 per cent of Gingrich voters say the same.
Being the first event of the electoral nomination process, taking place this year on January 3, the Iowa caucuses are traditionally seen as a highly influential in determining the final GOP nominee. If Ron Paul takes Iowa he can no longer be ignored by the establishment media and will have a genuine shot at building momentum for a victorious campaign.
The results of the poll vindicate the Paul campaign’s angry response to CBS News’ treatment of the Congressman when he was afforded just 89 seconds out of a 90 minute debate on Saturday night in South Carolina.
It subsequently transpired that Paul and other candidates had been the victims of a deliberate CBS policy to restrict questions to so-called lesser candidates, despite the fact that Paul’s figures have consistently proven he is a top tier performer.
As Reason’s Seth McKelvey highlights, even candidates with significantly lower polling figures than Paul were given more time.
Despite his embarrassing faux-pas in the previous debate when he failed to remember the name of the federal agency he wanted to abolish, Rick Perry, whose support has been sinking for weeks, was given the most time out of all the candidates during the CBS News debate.

Congressman Ron Paul was a victim of what later transpired to be a deliberate policy on behalf of CBS News to restrict the air time of certain candidates during last night’s Republican debate, after he was afforded just 90 seconds of speaking time during the course of the event in South Carolina last night.
Paul’s campaign reacted furiously to the Texan being limited to 90 seconds in what was a 90 minute-long debate, with Campaign Manager John Tate blasting out an email entitled “What a Joke,” in which he stated, “It literally made me sick watching the mainstream media once again silence the one sane voice in this election. The one dissenter to a decade of unchecked war. The one candidate who stands for true defense and actual constitutional government. Ron Paul was silenced, in perhaps the most important debate of the cycle.”
A scientific study undertaken by the University of Minnesota last month confirmed that Ron Paul had been given the least speaking time out of all the Republican candidates during the debates, even less than the likes of John Huntsman and Rick Santorum, who have routinely been beaten by Paul in national polls.
As Marc Fortier points out, an email inadvertently sent to Michelle Bachmann’s campaign clearly indicates that certain candidates were given less air time as a result of a deliberate CBS policy.
When a CBS staffer referenced how Bachmann’s campaign had made representatives available for an after-debate webshow, CBS News political analyst John Dickerson responded by saying, “Okay let’s keep it loose though since she’s not going to get many questions and she’s nearly off the charts in the hopes that we can get someone else.”
Dickerson’s admission that CBS had deliberately ensured Bachmann was “not going to get many questions” during the debate indicated “a planned effort to limit questions to Michele Bachmann at tonight’s CBS/National Journal Debate,” the Bachmann campaign said in a statement.
Obviously, that policy of limiting air time to certain candidates was also applied to Congressman Ron Paul, despite the fact that he has consistently won straw polls and proven himself as a top tier candidate in national polls.
As we have documented, despite his popularity the establishment media has deliberately downplayed and sidelined Paul’s campaign.
After Ron Paul finished a close second to Bachmann in the highly regarded Ames straw poll, and was subsequently blacklisted by the corporate press, Politico’s Roger Simon said the reason for him being ignored was that “the media doesn’t believe he has a hoot in hells chance of winning the Iowa caucuses, the Republican nomination or winning the presidency, so we’re gonna ignore him.”
“We are in the business of kicking candidates out of the race,” CNN host Howard Kurtz responded.

Once again, Rep. Ron Paul represented the voice of reason at the latest Republican debate held on Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Asked about attacking Iran, Paul said the president is obliged to follow the Constitution and go through Congress before attacking the country. He compared the current situation to the one before the United States launched its invasion of Iraq in 2003.
“I’m afraid what’s going on right now is similar to the war propaganda that went on against Iraq,” he said.
Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich strongly advocated going to war with Iran. Romney said that if “crippling sanctions” fail, military action would be used because it is “unacceptable” for Iran to become a nuclear power like the United States, Russia, Britain, China, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel.
“If we re-elect Barack Obama, Iran will have a nuclear weapon. And if you elect Mitt Romney, Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” said Romney.
Last week in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Romney said that as president he would send war ships to the region and work with Israel to undermine Iran.
Gingrich advocated “maximum covert operations” and assassinating Iran’s scientists. He said the United States should destroy Iran’s “systems, all of it covertly, all of it deniable.”
He previously said as president he would “green light” an Israeli attack on Iran. He doesn’t think it right for the United States to tell an ally and one “whose people have already endured one holocaust” that it may not do what it deems necessary for its own survival.
Gingrich has also called for bombing Iran’s oil refinery in addition to its nuclear facilities.
Herman Cain did not advocate attacking Iran directly but said the United States should increase sanctions, deploy ballistic missile warships, and assist the CIA’s color revolution effort to topple the country’s government.
Prior to the latest debate, Rick Santorum released a radio ad bragging about his experience on the Armed Services Committee and his efforts aimed at Iran. He also called for covert attacks on Iran and the murder of its scientists.
Iran has accused the U.S. of orchestrating a color revolution.In 2009, Iran said it discovered an effort by the CIA to orchestrate a “soft revolution” in the country. The plan was based in Dubai and similar to a U.S. plan that targeted the Soviet Union in 1959, according to the director of the counterespionage department of the Intelligence Ministry.
Iran blamed the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, the Soros Foundation, AIPAC, and said agents in the Azerbaijan Republic, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait were used in the effort.
At the time, the Brookings Institute produced a report calling for provoking war with Iran, arming and supporting terrorists within the county, and funding and organizing a color revolution.
A terror campaign against Iran’s nuclear scientists is already underway. In August, Iran prosecuted a man it claimed was part of an Israeli assassination effort.
A source in Israel’s intelligence community told the German magazine Der Spiegel earlier this year that Mossad was behind the assassinastion of Dariush Rezaeinejad, a member of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. Iran has blamed Mossad, the CIA and MI6 for assassinating its scientists.
In May of 2007, then president Bush gave approval to the CIA to launch a covert “black” operation to destabilize the Iranian government, according to current and former officials in the intelligence community.
The United States has supported and encouraged the Iranian militant group, Jundullah, that has conducted deadly raids inside Iran.
The al-Qaeda affiliated Sunni terrorist group has launched a number of attacks, including one in October of 2009 that killed over forty people. The CIA has supported other terrorist groups in Iran as well, including Mujahedeen-e Khalq.
On Saturday, Iran’s FARS News Agency pointed to research conducted by Prison Planet.com and Paul Joseph Watson citing “several credited and credible individuals, including US intelligence whistleblowers and former military personnel” revealing that the United States is currently conducting covert military operations inside Iran using guerilla groups to carry out attacks on the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.

Ron Paul has won another straw poll, indicating he is the choice for many if not most voting Republicans.
Demonstrating that the influence of establishment Republicans remains strong in the party, Herman Cain came in a distant second.
Cain recently made the news when he said unemployment is basically the fault of the individual and not transnational corporations that have sent most of the decent jobs to slave labor gulags in China and Asia.
Cain is the former boss of the Kansas City Federal Reserve.
Here is the poll breakdown:
Ron Paul – 36.9% (732)
Herman Cain – 22.5% (447)
Rick Santorum – 16.3% (323)
Rick Perry – 8.4% (167)
Michele Bachmann – 7.9% (157)
Mitt Romney – 4.4% (88)
Newt Gingrich – 2.7% (54)
Undecided – 0.7% (13)
Jon Huntsman – 0.1% (2)
Note that the current darling of the global elite, Mitt Romney, comes in at a dismal 4.4%. Even the wash-out and faux Tea Party cowboy Rick Perry does better than Mitt.
